SB 1 in a nutshell

  1. This may seem like a silly question, but has anyone other than myself noticed the exact wording about the Arts&Humanities and Practical Living/Career testing for this year on Page 74 of the bill? ...I will copy/paste below.

    (5) In the 2008-2009 academic year the Department of Education shall provide each district with a test booklet and scoring sheets for arts and humanities, practical living skills and career studies that may be used by a local district for a local formative or summative evaluation.

    Notice it says..."A TEST BOOKLET" does that mean that if our district decides to use "the test booklet" for a "local formative or summative evaluation" that we will have to make copies for every student in grades 4th, 5th, 7th & 8th? I'm guessing that we personally will then have to score the tests as well?...not sure that I will really have time to score 600 tests before school is out. Also not sure that it was the best way to assess students in these areas to begin with.

  2. My hunch (nothing more than that) is that the booklets are already printed, and KDE suggested mailing them to districts rather than trashing them.

    Only, local scoring seems likely to very little appeal--and that goes quintuple if only arts teachers are asked to do the work.

    And, of course, the reason we're moving to program reviews is because there's pretty broad consensus that the pencil-and-paper test was pretty far from the version of arts-and-humanities we want.
