Quick notes: school job cuts

This has been a tough week for Kentucky educators as districts announce staffing plans for the coming year. Cuts noted by the KSBA headline service include:
  • Thirty-two teaching slots in Madison County.
  • Eighteen teaching positions in Scott County.
  • Six teaching positions and three counseling slots in Campbell County, plus plans to replace seven librarians with one itinerant library specialist and a team of paraprofessionals.
  • Eleven teaching positions in Laurel County.
Declining local revenue, preparation for possible state cuts, and a lack of information about how federal fiscal stabilization money will work all contribute to this wave of reductions.
