Common Core thinking from KDE

KDE's Michael Miller reported Thursday that the first draft of the Common Core standards has major strengths, particularly mentioning:
  • the Algebra II mathematics content
  • the examples to clarify the expected level of student work
  • the use of footnotes to clarify terms for a lay audience
  • the explanations of how international benchmarking factored into the draft
Miller also told the Kentucky Board of Education that the next draft of the standards will be released later this month, reflecting feedback from experts and participating states.
