College enrollment surge (mostly KCTCS)

The C-J reported yesterday on a 5.4 percent increase in higher education enrollments this year, counting both public and independent institutions, and both graduate and undergraduate students. In round numbers, the CPE estimates for this fall show:

• A 13,000 increase overall.
• A 12,000 increase for undergraduates.
• A 10,000 increase for undergraduates just at KCTCS.

Roughly two of every five students in higher education are now enrolled in the community college system.
